Polyfab recognized for Innovative Use of IMD Film Application
The In-Mold Decorating Association (IMDA) announced the winners of the 2023 IMDA Awards Competition and Polyfab, LLC was a winner for “Best Use of IMD – Film Application.” The award was for their work on a water bottle filler alcove. Entries in the competition were received from around the world, and showcased the best of in-mold design.
Safer, Less Expensive and Longer lasting
The award-winning alcove made use of an IMD solution that uses a laminated anti-microbial product that is designed to stand up to the stresses of institutional cleaning solutions. It also costs less in the molding process. Originally, alcoves for water bottle fillers were designed with raised decorative areas that were hot stamped on an ABS molded part. That meant that the touch surface of the alcove and the spout filler needed to be anti-microbial. This led to the additional expense of anti-microbial additives and secondary decorating, Long term durability was an additional concern, because the raised decoration and anti-microbial additives didn’t last long. The use of the IMD film application eliminated these issues, resulting in a water bottle filler that is safer, longer lasting and more cost effective.
Solutions for Clean Water
The alcove was created for Zurn Elkay Water Solutions, a water management business that designs and manufactures a broad product portfolio of water management solutions that improve health, human safety and the environment.
